Dear Parents,

This week has provided several meaningful opportunities to celebrate community, confidence, and the partnerships that support our children’s development.

Care with Confidence

Early Years Campus Weekly Update 18 May 2026 - Early Years Campus Weekly Update 18 May 2026

As part of Helper Appreciation Month, we were delighted to host the first Care with Confidence workshop last Friday, a joint initiative between the school and the PTA, for helpers and carers in our community. The session was greatly appreciated by all who attended and provided valuable time to reflect on the important role adults play in supporting young children’s behaviour and wellbeing.

A key focus of the workshop was understanding behaviour as communication—looking beyond what we see on the surface to consider the emotions that may be driving a child’s actions. Participants explored practical strategies to support children’s behaviour, including building positive relationships, establishing predictable routines, and using simple calming approaches.

We now look forward to the second workshop in the series, which will focus on first aid for young children, continuing to build confidence and shared understanding across our community of caregivers.

Mandarin Storytelling Competition

Last Saturday morning, several of our children, from across Nursery to Year 1, took part in a Mandarin Storytelling Competition at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, where they performed alongside students from schools across Hong Kong.

Under the guidance of Lu Laoshi, the children presented familiar fairy tales with expressive gestures and clear, confident Mandarin. It was wonderful to see them embrace the opportunity to perform in a larger setting.

We are very pleased to share that all participating students were awarded a Merit prize. This achievement reflects their preparation, effort, and willingness to step forward with confidence.

The competition provided a valuable and meaningful learning experience for all participants—supporting language development, building confidence, and nurturing a positive attitude towards Chinese learning. We are grateful to Lu Laoshi for her support throughout and to families for encouraging participation in this enriching opportunity.

Transition & Enrichment Experiences This Week

We have a number of exciting experiences taking place this week:

  • Year 1 to Year 2 Transition
-Today, Mr. Gill, Head of Year 2, will be visiting the Year 1 classrooms to meet the children and begin building relationships ahead of the next academic year.
  • Sea Scouts Programme
-Year 1 will take part in their second Sea Scouts session
-Reception will attend their first session, following last week’s cancellation due to weather
  • Nursery Beach School
-Nursery children will visit Clearwater Bay on Tuesday for their Beach School session, providing rich opportunities for outdoor exploration, physical development, and connection with the natural environment.

These experiences continue to highlight the importance of shared understanding, new challenges, and strong relationships in supporting each child’s growth and confidence.

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Hanson
