At Nord Anglia International School Pudong, we remain committed to ensuring every child experiences a clear and purposeful learning journey. This month, we were delighted to officially launch our new Primary Skills Framework, a major development designed to strengthen clarity, consistency and connection across Reading, Writing and Mathematics. The framework was introduced to families during our recent Tuesday Talk, where parents attended a dedicated presentation and received their own copy of the accompanying booklet.
This initiative grew directly from parent feedback. Families shared that they wanted clearer expectations for each year group, greater transparency in how learning progresses and accessible ways to support learning at home. In response, our Primary leadership team collaborated to create a comprehensive, whole-school structure that now underpins teaching, assessment, planning and communication across all year groups.
The result is a framework that ensures every parent is well informed, every child understands their next steps and every teacher has a shared structure to support planning and progression.

The Primary Skills Framework brings together well-established curriculum approaches, including White Rose Maths, Talk for Writing, VIPERS and the National Curriculum. These trusted resources are combined into a parent-friendly structure organised around four clear stages of progression: Beginning, Developing, Expected and Mastery.
This unified approach offers students, teachers and parents a shared language for understanding achievement. It clarifies what success looks like at each stage and makes the learning journey more transparent and purposeful.

The framework is used daily in all Primary classrooms. It guides lesson planning, scaffolding, targeted challenge and personalised support. Teachers use it to track progress, shape moderation discussions and structure weekly communication with parents.
For students, this means clearer expectations, stronger ownership of their learning and more tailored support. For parents, it encourages meaningful conversations at home and builds confidence in understanding how skills develop throughout the year.
As we continue through the academic year, we will refine and enhance the framework with community input. Our ongoing focus remains on academic rigour, personalised learning and a smooth progression from Primary into Secondary. Above all, the framework supports our mission to nurture thoughtful, confident and creative learners who understand themselves as developing thinkers.
Assistant Head of Primary, Matthew Golden, described the launch as a milestone moment for the school:
“The Skills Framework represents a shared vision for high-quality learning across Primary at NAIS Pudong. It brings together the richness of our curriculum into one coherent tool that supports teachers, empowers students and connects families. This is an exciting moment for our community as we strengthen our current practices, always keeping students at the centre of every improvement decision.”
Assistant Head of Primary, Ian Motyka, highlighted the clarity and transparency the framework provides:
“Our aim has always been to provide complete transparency around what students can currently do and what their next steps are. The Skills Framework captures this clearly by giving families a shared understanding of learning and a narrative focused on growth and improvement. It supports parents to confidently engage with their child’s progress, and it gives students the clarity they need to move forward with purpose and pride.”

The launch of the Primary Skills Framework marks an important step in our continuous effort to strengthen learning across the school. We are grateful to the many families who joined the Tuesday Talk session and contributed to shaping this development.
Together, we are building a clearer, more connected and more empowering learning journey for every child at NAIS Pudong.
