The students decided to explore the role of gender equality and toys. They interviewed the younger children about which toys are for boys and girls and if boys and girls are allowed to play with each other’s gender defined toys. Ramya and Tangerine were the directors of the project with the other students interviewing and contributing creative suggestions to the video production. They answered the question by suggesting a 3 point plan to ‘ensure gender equality from the start if they started a new country’ which included; making adults aware of their influence on children and gender stereotyped toys; encouraging toy manufacturers to create gender neutral toys and ensuring children have greater access to choosing a variety of toys to promote gender equality.

They video was posted on Twitter ‘Creating a Chain of Young People’s Voices Around the World’ in recognition of the anniversary of the ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’. The purpose of the project is for Nord Anglia Education students to raise their voices in solidarity with the world’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children and tell the world what needs to be done.
