On Thursday 4th March, schools across the world celebrated World Book Day. Here at NAS, we held various virtual events which both children and staff enjoyed. There were a wide variety of costumes for dress-up day, so thank you for supporting your child with this.
There was a good level of engagement with the bedtime stories read by Ms Dom on Monday evening, Ms Melissa Martin on Tuesday and Ms Emma on Wednesday. They enjoyed these sessions too!
We were all very impressed with Sarah Roberts who got up at 1 a.m. not once but twice in the dark and cold of the English wintertime to read and talk to the children as our guest author.
She began her sessions by reading her book “Somebody Swallowed Stanley”. During the story, she told the children more about the creatures who feature in her book: whales, seagulls, turtles and jellyfish. For instance, the children learned about the spikes in a turtle’s throat to help them swallow their food and about the “eject button” on a herring gull’s beak.
Staff were also impressed with the children’s responses and questions in the chat box during Sarah’s presentations. As the children correctly identified, the key message of Sarah’s story was about the danger of plastic in our seas and oceans.
