Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1: Let’s get started again

We’re hitting the ground running with this Friday’s KS1 Bubble Run…Be pampered with our Y1 Sensory Spa Experience...Please sign up for parent consultations and a special workshop on understanding our children’s feelings.

Welcome back to the second half of Term 1.  Hopefully the children are well rested and excited to come back to school and catch up with their friends and teachers.  Last half term was very busy, and it looks like this half will be equally packed with exciting learning opportunities.

KS1 Bubble Run

Some of you might remember the very successful Bubble Run that was held in KS1 last year.  As part of Fun Fridays, the Bubble Run is a House Event and is a great way to wake up on a Friday morning.  Non-competitive but lots of stickers to collect along the way!

Our Bubble Run will happen at around 8am and 8.30am (Y1 and Y2) on Friday 3rd November, and though parents do not need to come along - if you are here, make sure you are wearing your running shoes as I am sure you will be encouraged to join in the fun.

The Sensory Spa Experience!

Y1 Parents will know that in Y1 this term the children have been learning all about their senses, and the Blindfold Walks and the Pizza Trips have all been part of their learning.

This year we have had a new experience added, and the children have been trained as ‘Therapists’ in our Sensory Spas.  Parents and teachers were invited to come in for  treatments such as massages, facials and foot-spas and tempted by aromatic fruit teas, spicy chocolate brownies and cinnamon popcorn.

Ms Susan explains why the team chose to include the spa in this half term’s topics.

The children have had a magical week celebrating their learning.  The Senses Spa saw an amazing collaboration of their ideas and personalities.  Planning it with the children was a wonderful learning journey.  We can not thank parents enough for their support on the day.  Encouraging children to show parents around the spa, igniting reasons for them to use language that they have learnt.  And let’s be honest – the children LOVED having the opportunity to boss their parents around!  We hope that parents felt “relaxed and happy” as they left the spa.

Parent Consultations

This terms parent consultations will take place on Tuesday 14th and Tuesday 21st November. This is your opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers to discuss their progress this term. You have all been sent an email which contains links to each year group’s appointment request Google form. Please click on the following links to select a day and time/s in which you would like to have your consultation:

Please note that some times are very popular, but teachers will try and accommodate your request as closely as possible.

Influenza Vaccination

To eliminate queues on November 17th for those families signed up for the flu vaccination, Samitivej Children’s Hospital representatives will be at St. Andrews Primary School, outside the office,  at the following time.

Date:   Monday November 13, 2017

Time:  07:00 – 15:30 hrs.

Venue: St Andrews International School Bangkok, Pridi Banomyong 20

During this time you can pay for the vaccinations your family has requested and complete the necessary medical forms.  Then on Friday the 17th you bring your receipt with you and join the line for the vaccination.  The receipt will contain all the information the medical staff need to administer the appropriate dosages.

You will be able to pay on the day but the hospital strongly recommends that this is done before as it speeds up the whole process and means not too much waiting around for the younger students.

Entering our children’s world

By Rachel Nahmias

Children’s behaviour is an expression of their feelings and thoughts. The behaviour is a message they are sending to their surrounding. In many cases, this message is hard for adults to read.

How do we better understand our children’s world? How do we see things through their eyes? And how do we learn to better communicate with our children?

Please join our workshop on November 8th, 8:10am regarding play, understanding and communicating with our children.
