Sport: PE, ECAs, and Squads create buzz across both Primary and High School

Catch up with our ballers and footballers, swimmers, and Nord Anglia Games athletes. Parents - time to start training for STA Community Sports Day.

Primary School Sports

We have had a great start to PE and Sport at the Primary School.  All squads and ECAs are up and running and it great walking around the school feeling the buzz around being active and playing sport.  Our exciting new curriculum that incorporates dance, gymnastics, yoga, swimming and PE offers so many opportunities for our Primary children.

We have a busy sports schedule ahead and can now look forward to our teams competing at the Harrow Bangkok Football Cup, Phuket 7s Football Tournament, Nord Anglia Games and various other tournaments for tennis, swimming and basketball.

Our boys have now finished their TISAC  season with a fantastic win and are now 2017 TISAC U11 Boys Champions. They have played some impressive basketball over their 4 games which has involved all the boys in the squad.

Both our girls and boys squads now have further BISAC friendly games coming up vs Shrewsbury and ASB before the Nord Anglia Games at the start of December.

Also, on Friday 6th, our U11 Basketball teams went to Patana for their BISAC Invitational Primary Basketball Tournament.  Both our girls and boys played some great basketball with our girls team both coming 1st place and our boys coming 2nd.

Flames Basketball Academy

Last Saturday, our U11 team enjoyed a game against another basketball academy. This is a great way to gauge progress against other children in the area and it was therefore pleasing to see our U11s play so well and come out winners, even against a U12 team from the other academy.

What was especially great to see was the way that our boys and girls played together - they don’t often have this opportunity and it adds an interesting dimension to the work that they do on court.

Please note that with the long weekend and half term, we won’t have any more sessions this October. Our next session will be 4 November.

On Thursday 5th October the U9 boys and girls squads went to Shrewsbury for a friendly fixture. Once again our football squads continue to reach new heights of performance and it was great to see all our squad members representing STA. Thank you as always for the parent support.

Our Marlin swimmers took part at the NIST Falcon Swim Meet on Saturday.  The swimmers were once again brilliant with some impressive swimming. STA finished 3rd place in our highest ever finish in an International swim meet. Well done to all the children involved and the brilliant support of our STA parents.

STA Community Sports Day

On Saturday, 18th November, we’ll have our second Community Sports Day, open to all of our parents, staff and alumni. We are starting to prepare for this now with our PTG, who will provide food for the event.

The day will be held at High School, with volleyball, football and badminton on offer, as well a free swim and table tennis for the kids.

Soon we will ask you to sign up - please look out for an email in the next week or so.

We had some more good games last week, the highlight of which has to be Thursdays trip to Traill with the U15s. Our girls were beaten last time by a strong team, but showed unbelievable spirit and grit. We had a clear game plan in defense that worked well and had the game tied up midway through. We were just 4 down when a major  injury to one of our key players effectively ended the game, but I’ve rarely been more proud of a team performance than I was of this one.

The boys then played their game and in a high quality encounter, forced the game into overtime with two free throws at the death. They showed great discipline and composure to finish winners by 2 points.

Our season continues with TISAC League games and friendlies against BISAC schools.

On Wednesday, we’re pleased to send our Senior Girls to ASB - a school with a strong girls team - to take part in a 3-way tournament with a touring school from Singapore. News next week.
