CAS in the St Andrews International School Bangkok Community

This week in the world of CAS we have had many exciting things happening. This weekend was the start of the training of many of our Operation Wallacea students wanting to complete their Open Water PADI Certificate for the big expedition at the end of the academic year. Students will be working closely with conservation scientists in Indonesia collecting research in the jungle and ocean about the biodiversity which needs protecting in the area. The Diving Team at STA is led by Dr Siona who is now a qualified Dive Master and will be teaching our students the technical skills to achieve their PADI’s Qualification. Well done Dr Siona!

Some of our CAS students have also been supporting the internationally-acclaimed theatre performance of Yugpurush presented by the Shrimad Rajchanra Mission. This award winning, enlightening narrative of the life of Mahatma Ghandi is touring the world to raise funds for its many charity projects across India. Aarushi in Year 12 took the initiative to raise awareness and funds for this worthwhile event as part of her extensive CAS involvement. Great work!

This weekend also saw some of our dedicated teachers working with students at the Mercy Centre Orphanage. Many staff at STA volunteer to mentor a child from the Mercy Centre. The intention of this project is for staff to be positive role models for the students as well as develop their confidence in a range of different social activities. These activities also improve and support the excellent Mercy Centre Students English Skills programme led by Miss Helen from our Primary campus. It is very important for our CAS students to also see how we as staff are immersed in the local community, to inspire positive change, and share commonalities whilst also upholding dignity and respect. All of the children in the project will be attending our Celebratory Winter Carnival hosted by STA and Central Thailand Mission on 10th December. Special thanks to Miss Laura this week for her time!
