Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1: High-flying Year 2 takes off

Year 2 were treated to an amazing day at the Royal Thai Air Force Museum, Little Owls have been earning badges more badges, ECAs for Term 2 will be announced as well as other important dates for your diary.

Y2 Visit to Thai Royal Air Force Museum

Year 2 were off on their travels again last week as the whole year group made their annual visit to the Air Force Museum as the culmination to their transport topic.

Miss Maria explains more about the trip:

On Thursday 23 November a very excited group of Year 2 students and teachers visited the Royal Thai Air Force Museum as part of their ‘Transport’ topic. The children were very much looking forward to seeing all the different aeroplanes, helicopters and other aviation equipment displayed at the museum.

Once the children arrived, they were treated to a short video explaining the history of the Museum. The staff at the Museum then carried out a flight demonstration with two drones, this was definitely a high point for the children as they loved seeing the drones flying above their heads. Next the children were taken to the first building, where they had the opportunity to see and also visit the inside of some of the helicopters. They really enjoyed being able to look inside the cockpits and sit in the pilot's seat.

To learn about the changes in aviation throughout history, the children were shown different travel classes of a commercial aeroplane belonging to the Thai Air-Force, understanding the different ways people travel.

Next, the children were treated to a short talk about how The Royal Thai Air-Force fighter jets had played a part in Thai history. The children were very impressed with the fighter jets, their size and sleek look.

It was a fun day for all and great to see so many of the children enthusiastic and showing a great interest in aeroplanes and aviation in general. They enjoyed buying mini plane models from the souvenir shop and talking about aircraft on the bus journey home!

ECAs for Term 2

In a short while, parents will be notified about the sign-up process for the Term 2 ECAs. Many of the old favourites will still be there with a couple of new ECAs appearing too.

One of the popular clubs over recent terms has been Little Owls, our very own version of Brownies and Scouts. With Little Owls the watchword is “variety” as each term the Owls learn new skills and are tested before they earn their coveted badges.

Miss Jo explains what has been happening this term.

This term in Little Owls ECA, we have been busy working towards the Toymaker, Writer and Cycling badges. The children have worked hard to learn how to sew and entertain others, as well as keeping safe whilst cycling and learning the hand signals for safe travelling.

For the toy makers badge first I made a game out of card. Next I did a sock puppet that was a dog. Mabel 3A
In little owls I made a sock puppet and a stuffed owl and made a joint puppet and in cycling I learned how to get the right bike size and how to properly tighten your helmet so it will not fall of your head. I also learned how the gears works and how to use it properly and how to make the bike go faster and slower and how to make the seat lower and higher. Faye 3J
In little owls I have made a sock puppet, and a stuffed rabbit for the toy makers badge. For the cycling badge I learned how to make sure your bike is the right size and if your helmet fits. In the writers badge I wrote a story. Ori 4P

A couple of weeks ago you may remember seeing Miss Jen, a new friend of St Andrews International School Bangkok, in action, warming everyone up before the Grand KS1 Bubble Run. We are pleased to announce that she will be offering a new club for both KS1 and KS2 next term, so look out for details when the club information goes live.

Commercial Street Jazz Dance

Miss Jen has arrived here from London and wants to share her experience as a commercial dancer with your child. She has been a professional dancer and choreographer for over 10 years working for international artists such as Coldplay, Take That and Rihanna and she's excited to teach your child the routines that make it to the stadium tours and live TV performances. They will have the chance to develop a strong jazz technique that can then be applied to any style of commercial routine- dancing like Miss Jen has done on shows like X Factor, and Britains got Talent! Expect fun, exciting routines choreographed to current pop songs that are highly entertaining for your child to learn, and for you as parents to watch!

Christmas is coming!

The Christmas excitement will really begin from Friday 1 December as we begin to prepare the school for Christmas. Already a couple of Christmas Trees have started to appear, and they will be joined by others as we move into December. Anyone who would like to help decorate the trees around the Primary School on Friday, please meet other volunteers from the PTG outside the School Office at 08.00 a.m.

Mercy Centre Christmas Gift Collection

Every year in Foundation Stage and KS1 we hold a Christmas Gift Collection for the children of the Mercy Centre, and every year we have been amazed by the generosity of our families. Following our final Christmas Show we traditionally load up a couple of minibuses of gifts to be delivered to the children of the Khlong Toey Community.

This year again we ask for your donations. It would be great if each family could provide one gift with a value of 300-400 baht. The gifts should be wrapped for Christmas and labelled with BOY or GIRL as well as the age for which it is suitable. We also ask that it is not a toy that needs batteries as often children cannot afford new batteries.

Boxes for your donations will appear in each shared area during the first week of December.

Thank you in anticipation as we know you and your family will support this worthy cause.
