Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1: Full of excitement and anticipation

Last Friday, we celebrated Loy Kratong in a lovely, low-key way… Saturday’s STA Swim Champs event was a great opportunity for many of our young swim competitors… Don’t forget about Ms Rachel’s parent workshop this Wednesday… We’re looking forward ot our first International Day as a Primary School… There will be parent consultations scheduled for the next two Tuesdays.  Please sign-up for your preferred date today.

Last week was a very busy week in Foundation Stage and KS1 and, looking at the calendar, things are just going to get even busier as we head towards the end of Term 1. With International Day on the horizon on Friday this week and the KS1 Bubble Run on the 17th November - there is a lot for the children to get excited about.

Loy Krathong

We celebrated Loy Krathong in quite a low key way this year, but last Friday morning was lovely nonetheless. With Parents coming in to help the KG children with their Krathongs and the Y5 and Y6 students coming down to help in Reception, Y1 and Y2, it was a great atmosphere. The younger students were very excited to have big brothers and sisters come down with their friends, and our KS2 friends really enjoyed teaching the young ones how to make krathongs. They were so patient and positive with them - full of praise for trying so hard. Teachers are already looking at how we they can develop the relationships between the classes as we move through the next two terms.

St Andrews Swim Champs

I saw many of the Primary School families over at High School on Saturday as we attended the first main swimming event on the new campus. It was a fabulous event that brilliantly organised by the Swim Team, the PTG and all the support teams.

It was an exciting opportunity for the youngest swimmers to get involved in what was for some their first ever swimming event. Thanks should go to all the organisers and also the parents who cheered everyone home and encouraged each competitor.

Entering our children’s world

As advertised in last week’s newsletter, Ms Rachel will be running a workshop for parents at 8am on Wednesday this week (Top Floor of R building - top floor in the lift then take the stairs to the Exam Room. There will be staff around to direct you).

The workshop will contain some insights into children’s behaviour and how as parents we can both observe and fully engage in what the children are doing. The workshop is for FS and KS1 but will also be on interest to KS2 parents.

On a separate but related topic, Foundation Stage parents have been interested to see how teachers are adopting “In the Moment Planning”. In two special articles this week we explain how we are continually developing what we do to prepare the children for life in the 21st Century. In the first article “Keeping Early Years Unique”, Mrs Meg talks about training that she and Mrs Jo attended in the summer break - run by acknowledged leaders in the field of Foundation Stage teaching and research. In the second article “Putting Theory into Practice” Mrs Jo gives some examples of what the theory looks like in practice and how we are supporting the children in the development such skills as collaboration and teamwork, creativity and imagination, critical thinking and problem solving.

International Day

This Friday we are looking forward to our first International Day as a Primary School! We have lots of special activities planned for the children both in the classroom and out. The Foundation Stage children will have a short parade at around 8am on the field, following which Reception will entertain their parents with a song on the T Block Playground.

At around 8.35am the KS1 children will have their assembly before they start their rotation of activities that will take them all over the world.

Lunch will of course be a highlight of the day, but if you are here enjoying lunch with your children, please remember to send them back to class at 12.05pm as after the register the children will have more activities to enjoy.

Influenza Vaccination - important reminder

To eliminate queues on November 17th for those families signed up for the flu vaccination, Samitivej Children’s Hospital representatives will be at St Andrews Primary School, outside the office, at the following time:

Date:  Monday November 13, 2017

Time: 07:00 – 15:30 hrs.

Venue: St Andrews International School Bangkok, Pridi Banomyong 20

During this time you can pay for the vaccinations your family has requested and complete the necessary medical forms. Then on Friday the 17th you bring your receipt with you and join the line for the vaccination. The receipt will contain all the information the medical staff need to administer the appropriate dosages.

You will be able to pay on the day but the hospital strongly recommends that this is done before as it speeds up the whole process and means not too much waiting around for the younger students.
