TISAC Primary Choral Day

A HUGE well done to all our Mezzo Singers from years 3-6 who were absolute stars during the TISAC Primary Choral Day. The children worked really hard and showed great team spirit all day. They learnt 4 different songs from 4 genres of music (Blues, folk, Hip Hop, Pop) and presented them in a concert to parents and Year 5. Mr. Scott managed to capture some lovely moments from the day. Please enjoy the photo gallery from the event.

Early Years Music and Movement Workshops

The reception children had a lovely time on Friday with Lis Dooner exploring the world of birds through music. They learnt their own special bird melodies, designed landscapes for birds as Lis accompanied on flute, and became tweeting birds as they listen for phrases in Delibes’ “Pizzicati”. Reception children will perform alongside our flutes on Tuesday at 1:45pm in the Drama Studio. Reception parents are very welcome to come and see their children perform!

Nursery, KG and Year 1 also enjoyed special music session with Lis Dooner. They met 3 different kinds of flutes: alto flute, regular flute and piccolo. The children explore the different music in Debussy’s ‘Little Shepherd’ and created their own actions. Thanks to Lis for a wonderful day of musical exploration.

This Week:

Flute Workshops

This Monday and Tuesday we have 2 visiting flautists from the UK in school: Sarah Newbold and Elisabeth Dooner. They are both experienced orchestral performers and teach in some of the top music colleges in the UK. 20 of our flute players from St. Andrews will have the opportunity to work with them over 2 days, during which time they will work on a creative piece, some ensemble repertoire, movement and supporting the Reception children in a concert. They will all perform alongside the professionals in a concert at 1:45pm in the drama studio on Tuesday, to which the flute players’ parents are invited.

Kathryn Andersen, Juilliard Curriculum Specialist

This Monday to Wednesday our music curriculum specialist from Juilliard, Kathryn Andersen, is joining us in school. During this visit she will be working with 5 different classes across the age ranges on some activities related to the Juilliard Core Works. She will also work with some of our musical ECA groups which will be very rewarding.
