Music is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of both the curriculum from Early Years to Year 13 and a wide range of extra-curricular Music activities.
August 2017 will be a very exciting time to join St Andrews, as we open our new 11-18 Campus, with a floor of purpose-built Music classrooms and practice rooms, close to the Drama Studios and a 300-seat Theatre.
All students study Music from the Early Years to Year 9, with our Music curriculum focusing on performance. All students from Year 4 onwards choose, and are loaned, either a violin, a trumpet or a wind instrument (flute or clarinet), with Music lessons including instrumental instruction, ensemble practices and performances, often working together with other students in the Year Group playing different instruments. The ability to offer more than one of these instruments, or other instruments within these families, and experience teaching Music Technology, a recent addition to the curriculum, would be an advantage, as would previous experience teaching one or both of the IGCSE and IB Music courses offered to older students.
At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.
As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
