Key Stage 2: New faces in new places

Welcome back after what I hope hope was a very restful break for those of you returning to St Andrews International School Bangkok, and welcome to all of the new families who are joining us this year. It was a very busy day today across KS2 as old friends caught up and new friendships were forged.

There was a great buzz in the R building and in the quad as the children took part in the welcome back activities that their teachers had planned for them.

Over the summer break, many changes have been taking place across the 71 campus to develop the site into an amazing Primary School facility. It’s incredible to see the scale of some of the changes that have taken place in such a short period of time. This is down to the hard work of the estates team who have worked tirelessly over the break to ensure everything was ready for the returning students.

New Field Garden Covered Square

In KS2 we have seen some redevelopment of classroom spaces in the R building as well as the remodelling of the toilets to provide more cubicles. The quad area, which was vacated by the departing High School, has been given a facelift with the addition of a new roof, which provides cover for the new shared area which is to be used by the Year 6 students who are now based on the ground floor around the quad.

Drama Area Covering Living Wall

Big changes have taken place on the field with a new state of the art, artificial turf pitch having been laid as well as a new climbing frame aimed at the older students- The Terranova. This will be opened to all students over the week, with individual classes getting to spend some time exploring the space with their teachers.

We also have new additions to the academic and support teams in KS2. We have 11 new teachers joining us this year to tackle the expansion of KS2 as we move into the new spaces.

6 New Teachers 5 New Teachers

We also have Ms Rachel Nahmias, our Play Therapist, now being based in school this year, Ms Rachel Szewczuk is joining us as our Primary Art Therapy Counsellor and Ms April as the leader of the STARs Programme in KS2.

Meet the Teacher

Your first chance to get to meet the teachers and find out more about your children’s new year groups is on Thursday 31st August. The afternoon begins at 4pm in the Sports Hall with a talk from Mr Paul, followed by two Meet the Teacher sessions. More details will follow soon.

Steps with Theera- the New Coffee Shop

I’m sure many of you noticed the absence of the Bei Otto coffee shop this morning. Don’t worry, you can still get your morning coffee fix at the all new coffee shop, which is run by Steps with Theera, and can be accessed by the staircase nearest the swimming pool, beside the main entrance. This is a parent coffee shop, although children can attend before and after school. They have a wide selection of healthy treats and sandwiches and even offer a loyalty card to get discounts.
