Head’s Lines : Getting to know the new St Andrews

It has certainly been a great week across both Primary School and High School of St Andrews International School Bangkok.

Since the opening of our new campus, it has been great to see the High School students discovering all the new facilities and learning spaces around the school. This Monday the High School canteen is fully open offering a whole array of dishes with that can be purchased with stored value system tethered to students’ ID cards. In the days ahead, the swimming pool and hardcourt will come online, along with the opening of the Learning Resource Centre. It will be another really exciting week which I am sure everyone will enjoy.

The Primary School has also been hotbed of activity with engaged children playing and enjoying themselves across the new and re-structured areas around campus. Last Friday we had the first whole school assembly and showed everyone the wonderful opportunities they will have with the House System, sports and music. There were lots of happy, smiling faces and a real positive buzz about the upcoming events just around the corner. This is important because even our youngest children’s suggestions and contributions play a valuable role in how we develop the great spaces around the Primary School.

This week, there are quite a few upcoming parents information sessions at both the Primary and High School. These events are a prime opportunity to meet lots of great people from our school community, who may also be able to provide advice and help answer many of the most common questions everyone has when joining a new school. Here are some of the upcoming Parent Information Sessions by year group at both the Primary and High School:

  • Y2 to Y4 Meet the Teacher:   Thursday 31st August at 4.00 pm
  • Y5 and Y6 Meet the Teacher:  Thursday 7th September at 4.00 pm
  • Y7 Parents Information Evening:  Tuesday 29th August at 4.00 pm
  • Y8 Parents Information Evening:  Tuesday 5th September at 4.00 pm
  • Y9 Parents Information Evening:  Thursday 7th September at 4.00 pm
  • Y10/11 Parents Information Evening:  Tuesday 12th September at 4.00 pm
  • Y12/13 Parents Information Evening:  Thursday 14th September at 4.00 pm

Furthermore, there has been an impressive turnout to the launch of our first Moodle workshops, where parents can get a hands-on lesson on how to use this online platform effectively. In addition to picking up tips on how to check on homework and sign up for ECAs, parents can also learn how to locate relevant information regarding their child's life at St Andrews. Each workshop included a lively question-and-answer session, and some good suggestions have been put forward on how we could improve the Moodle platform even further. If you've not yet made it along to a workshop, please sign up for one by emailing Primary at officeps@standrews.ac.th or High School at officehs@standrews.ac.th. Here is a list of upcoming Moodle workshops:

  • Wed 30th Aug @ High School 07.30-08.00 or 08.00-08.30 (Yoga studio)
  • Thu 31st Aug @ High School 07.30-08.00 or 08.00-08.30 (Yoga studio)
  • NEW Fri 1st Sep @ Primary School 08.00-08.30 (Library classroom)

Idling Engines in the Car park

The three Key Stage 2 students who won last year’s poster competition have now had their posters put up around our car park. They are in English and in Thai, and I hope that everyone who uses the car park will read them and take note that we do not want cars running their engines in the car park. This action affects the air quality everyone has to breathe as they make their way out of school in the afternoon. With the modern air conditioners now present in most cars, as soon as the ignition is turned on, a car’s interior only takes a few seconds to cool— so, there is no need to have the engine on prior to children and parents getting into the car to go home. I am sure if we all follow these guidelines about not running our car engines in the car park then the atmosphere as everyone leaves school will be a lot healthier for all. Thank you for your help in this area.
