High School: Full STEAM ahead

Updates on the Programmes of Study, the Canteen and ECAs, which begin today, as well as our first ever STA STEAM EXPO.

It was great to see so many Year 8 and 9 parents at last week’s Parents' Information Evenings and we are looking forward to seeing more parents at this week’s Years 10/11 and Years 12/13 events, taking place on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

The Key Stage 3 Programmes of Study are now on Moodle, in the High School Parents' Handbook - so that parents can see what their son/daughter will be studying in each subject as we move through the year (The Art Programme of Study is shown above as an example). The Key Stage 4/IGCSE and Key Stage 5/IB Programmes of Study will also be available by the end of this week, following final adjustments reflecting our review of last year’s IGCSE and IB results.

On Friday last week, our new STEAM Team, made up of a group of Year 13 students, launched our first St Andrews STEAM EXPO:

The STEAM EXPO is an alternative to a typical Science Fair that allows students to explore a wider range of areas of studies other than just the sciences - STEAM is an abbreviation of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. Students in Years 7 to 10 are encouraged to use their creativity to create a project to spread their ideas and show their love of and interest in education and knowledge by incorporating different aspects of STEAM along with embracing their personal interest. Students can collaborate with friends to come up with ideas and incorporate these ideas into their project, to present to the rest of the High School in the Atrium at lunchtime on Friday 6th October. To Apply for the STEAM EXPO, teams need to fill in an application form, that has been e-mailed to all High School students, and e-mail it to us at steamexpo2017@standrews.ac.th by Wednesday 13th September.

Thank you
The STEAM Team

The new High School Canteen continued to get busier every day last week, selling more lunches every day, but the queues continued to get faster and faster as students got used to the system and, following further discussion with the Student Leadership Team on Friday, we are continuing with the same queuing system this week. Students choose their queue according to the different station that they will be eating from (Snackshop, Western, Live Cooking, Vegetarian, Thai or Noodles). Each day last week most of the different queues were gone well before 1pm, with the Live Cooking station, shown above, and the Sandwiches most likely to be the one queue still busy by this time.

Each week’s menu (this week’s is shown below) will now be on Moodle, allowing students to check the menu before choosing which queue to join.

Term 1 ECAs begin today, with hundreds of students attending one or more of over 80 different ECAs being offered in the High School, with Chess Club, Creative Coding, Grease, the High School Magazine, Spanish Drama Club and Vex Robotics (pictured above) being just a few of the different ECAs running on Mondays and beginning this afternoon.
