Y5 Trip to the Museum

Last week, Year 5 had a great time at The National Bangkok Museum as part of their learning on the topic of Thailand. The students took part in a special ‘treasure hunt’ to learn about different aspects of Thai culture. The children were given a map and had to navigate their way around the museum to locate the different treasures. They learned through artefacts, stories and activities about the Buddhist wheel of law, the Hindu God, Ganesh, the significance of the Garuda and the Royal Chariots. They ended the day with a visit to the temple.

The students asked some very inquisitive questions and thoroughly enjoyed learning facts about Thailand. Here are some quotes from the children

I really enjoyed the trip because I learned so many new things about Thailand. I can’t wait to go back! Anvir
It was a splendid trip. I learned a lot of interesting things and saw lots of cool artefacts. Ben

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the volunteers at the museum, including one of our parents, Mrs Vassella, who did a great job making us feel welcome and making sure the children learned a lot. I’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped out on our trip- especially the parents who lent a hand on all three days!

International Day is just around the corner

Next Friday, 12 October, will be our International Day here at the Primary Campus. For those of you who are new to the school this year, on International Day our whole community comes to school wearing their national costume or wearing clothes which represent their country. You are welcome to get dressed up too and come and celebrate with us in our assemblies.

This year, we are going to be having two celebratory assemblies in the Sports Hall in the morning for KS2 -  one at 8.30 a.m. for Y1-3 and one from 9.10 a.m. for Y4-6. As well as a procession of the flags to kick things off, there will also be a showcase of talent from our music and dance ECAs.

At breaktime - which will be from 10.00-10.30 a.m. - we will have some student cultural dances and songs which have been prepared by families from the countries represented. The highlight of the day for many is the International Food Buffet, which takes place in the Sports Hall. There is always an amazing spread of food from around the world, celebrating the diversity of our school community. If you would like to get involved in helping prepare for the buffet, please email ptgchair@standrews.ac.th">ptgchair@standrews.ac.th to register your interest.

Mindful Friday

This Friday we will be having another of our Mindful Fridays - a very popular addition to last year’s school calendar. Organised by the House Team, and supported by Ms Jo (KS2 - Sports Hall) and Ms Jen (KS1 - Y6 Quad), the children will have the opportunity to relax their minds and bodies at morning break time as they join in with some Yoga activities.

With three of our teachers enrolled in a Mindful Educator Study Course, we look forward to introducing more Mindfulness Activities into the curriculum later in the year and beyond.
