Primary School Library: Overdue changes

The Primary School Library is trying to reduce the number of overdue books so that more people can read the popular titles. Read on to find out the winners of the “Design a Poster” competition to brighten up the empty wall. Scholastic Book Club will be returning and rewards help the Library get even more great books.

Please Help Us to Reduce Overdue and ‘Lost’ Books

This week St Andrews International School Bangkok have reinstated the process of date stamping our borrowed books in order to help everyone - children, parents, teachers and us - see easily when books are due to be returned to the Library. May we ask you all to please adhere to the 2 week borrowing period as we often have other people waiting to borrow the books which you have. Please also remember to renew any books which you are still reading to avoid receiving an overdue notice.

You may also receive a weekly email, entitled “A Polite Reminder”, which will be automatically sent out on Wednesday mornings for all outstanding books. We appreciate your help and understanding as we try to reduce the number of overdue and ‘lost’ books which we have and ensure that everyone can enjoy an equal borrowing opportunity.

If you don’t already have one, our ‘Family’ accounts are a great way to borrow more books, with a general limit of 6 books, in addition to your child’s borrowing allowance. This is easy to set up and takes just a few minutes so do come and see us in the Library when we can also provide you with login access to your child’s account so that you can also keep an eye on their borrowing and return dates.

Design a Poster Competition - Judging & WINNERS Announced

Our “Design a Poster” competition produced some very creative work from children throughout KS1 and KS2. Judging the 30 entries took place on Friday and we were very impressed with the amount of detail and beautiful bold colours which the entrants showed in their designs. As is usually the case, it was very difficult for us to choose one winner and everyone who entered should be very proud of themselves. All the children who entered will receive 2 house points and a BIG thank you and congratulations from us.

We did have to choose some winners though so the sad-looking empty wall space will soon be brightened up with a colourful display of the winning artists’ beautiful posters.

We chose five winners and they are….. (drum roll!)......

Nice, Aysha, Maeya, Aidan and Mady.

Well done to them. Their posters will be enlarged, mounted into frames and displayed just as soon as we can manage. We will also be arranging a presentation of a special prize and Certificate of Achievement very soon.

Here’s a sneak preview of their amazing designs:

Scholastic Book Club

We have been shopping again for our favourite thing - wonderful FREE books! This time we’ve chosen another 23 NEW books for the Primary School Library with our Rewards from the last Scholastic Book Club in May which many of you kindly participated in. For each book you buy we get a percentage which then goes towards a Reward. We hope we might earn even more from the next book club, which we will run in early November, so that we can get the books delivered and ready for you before the end of term. There will be lots of potential ‘Christmas presents’ for some lucky readers so look out for more details coming soon and a BIG thank you again for taking part and making the book club so successful.

Books of the Week

This week’s books cover a range of themes from knitting cats, football magic, beasts around the world and Inca treasure. We hope you enjoy them:
