High School Library: Book Week has arrived

There is so much to enjoy at the Simon Lawrence Library for Book Week this week. Get involved in designing a logo or a bookmark or track down a Golden Ticket. Prizes and house points are up for grabs.

High School Book Week

High School Book Week is now in full swing. All activities and contests are open to all our students, so please feel free to participate in as many as you would like. You can find detailed information on Library activities and contests on our Destiny homepage, the posters around the school, the brochures in the Library and the High School notices on Moodle. As announced last week, the winning logo from the Library Logo Contest and the award-winning designs from the Bookmark Designing Contest will be printed and used in school. Winners will be awarded 3 house points and book vouchers and the winning House will be given 10 house points. In addition, all participants will be given 1 house point. As for the Golden Ticket event, you will need to scan the QR code every day on the screens next to the Library entrance as well as the High School notices in order to find the clues for the 3 teachers who keep Golden Ticket. You can collect all the clues for the teachers every day and anticipate who they are. Below are the first day’s clues about the teachers’ favorite colours.

If all this wasn’t enough, Kinokuniya and AsiaBooks have set up their booths in front of the Library so that you can take advantage of a promotional discount to buy your favorite books from them.

We hope you enjoy Book Week this year! Should you have any questions/suggestions about Book Week, please feel free to contact the Simon Lawrence Library at libraryhs@standrews.ac.th">libraryhs@standrews.ac.th.

New Display Section

The Simon Lawrence Library is pleased to introduce a new display section on the left side of the Library entrance.  This long-awaited section will be used for a variety of things such as displaying new books, promoting best sellers and popular books, introducing famous authors, and so on. During Book Week, we have prepared a lot of new books that have arrived since the summer break, making them available every day. There are also some book reviews and displays in languages other than English, so please pay the Library a visit and take a look.

Author Visit

The Simon Lawrence Library has invited an international author, Oliver Phommavanh, who is Thai Australian and has experience as a Primary School teacher as well as a comedian. He has appeared on stage and on national TV (The NRL Footy Show) and radio. Also, he is a fresh, positive voice for cultural diversity in children’s literature and has appeared in countless writers, arts and comedy festivals across Australia. His books have been on the shortlist for diverse Book Awards including the Young Australia Best Book Awards (YABBAs) and Kids Own Australia’s Literature Awards (KOALAs). All his books are displayed in the Library, so please come pick up one of them to read then share cultural diversity from different viewpoints with your friends.

His writing workshops will take place on Friday, 30 November 2018 and all KS3 students will have an opportunity to attend his workshop and profit from the opportunity to improve their writing skills. Should you need further information on him, his story and books, please feel free to visit his website - http://www.oliverwriter.com. We look forward to having him at our school soon.
