High School: “We are resilient, and learn from our mistakes.”

It’s November, and so time for another Monthly Theme. This month’s theme is “We are resilient, and learn from our mistakes”.

hs theme

This month’s theme, “We are resilient, and learn from our mistakes”, both fits our ongoing focus on students’, and teachers’, Growth Mindsets and is timed to fit with our Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings, which began with Year 10 and 11 last week and continue this week for Years 12 and 13. It was great to see so many parents at last week’s Year 10 and 11’s Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings, and the Year 9 and 11 Option Information Evenings too.

The process continues as teachers begin to write Grade Reports for students in Years 7, 8 and 9 this week. These will be published on Friday 23rd November, with the Year 7, 8 and 9 Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings taking place on Tuesday 27th November, Thursday 29th November and Thursday 6th December respectively.

high school

This week we have a number of visitors in school as we host the first Nord Anglia Education Regional Crisis Management Conference on Monday and Tuesday and then are visited by a Nord Anglia Education Health and Safety Inspection Team on Wednesday and Thursday.

Just like the students, we want to keep on learning by reflecting and “actively seeking feedback”, and events like these are a very important part of how we can all benefit from sharing ideas, and getting feedback, from other Nord Anglia Education schools in South East Asia and beyond. With the Nord Anglia Education Regional Crisis Management Conference follows an extremely valuable Nord Anglia Education Regional Child Protection and Safeguarding Conference this time last year.

I spent most of my half-term in Shanghai, helping to lead the Nord Anglia Education China Region Middle Leadership Programme Residential. Many of our Middle Leaders, from both Primary and the High School, have participated in this programme in previous years, and it was really interesting to work with Middle Leaders from Nord Anglia Education’s schools in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, helping them to reflect and  “actively seek feedback” too.

On the last morning of the Residential, I shared one of my favourite quotes, from Saul Alinsky, with the Middle Leaders:

Most people do not accumulate a body of experience. Most people go through life undergoing a series of happenings, which pass through their systems undigested. Happenings become experiences when they are digested, when they are reflected on Saul Alinsky

I think it’s a very good fit with our new monthly theme, our Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings and all our visitors this week too.

Influenza Vaccinations

flu shot flu shot

Last week we emailed all High School parents about the Influenza Vaccinations taking place at the Primary School on Friday 16 November, from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for High School students, who will be able to travel to Primary on our Shuttle Bus service after the end of school.

This year, to simplify things, you can register online for the vaccination, which costs 590 Baht per person. You can register anyone in your family for this - adults or children. Payments can be made on the day at the Primary School. Please bring along your confirmation code, which you will receive once you have registered, and present it to the Samitivej staff before paying. If you have any questions about the vaccination process please contact nursehs@standrews.ac.th.
