Theory of Knowledge is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced teacher to join, and lead, the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Theory of Knowledge Coordinator, or teacher, able to convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum, both within Theory of Knowledge lessons and by working with other Departments/Faculties.
Theory of Knowledge is a compulsory component of the IB Diploma Programme, studied by the vast majority of our Year 12 and 13 students. At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and this applies equally to our IB Diploma Programme. We have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.
As well as Theory of Knowledge, the ideal candidate will also be an experienced teacher of one of the other subjects that we are advertising. Please see also the information about the appropriate position, and respond to that, as well as this information, in your application.
All classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required.
As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
St Andrews is committed to ensuring the safety of all our students, and expects all staff to share the same commitment (see our Child Protection Code of Conduct). No teacher will be appointed without at least two references, including one from the most recent employer, a ten year criminal record check and relevant regional Prohibition Order/DBS checks
