High School: Here we go...

IB and IGCSE exams, Grease, Year 6 Transition Day, the MIT STEAM Launch and the Week Without Assembly are all happening this week.

After settling back into school last week, the Term 3 busyness is here, with IB and IGCSE exams, Grease, Year 6 Transition Day, the MIT STEAM Launch and the Week Without Assembly all happening this week…

The Grease cast and crew have been working very hard for a long time with final rehearsals taking place on Friday, Sunday and today - you can see a “Making of…” video on the School’s Facebook page.

There will be five performances this week, both Matinees and Evening Performances, and,  as I write this, there are still a few tickets available at the High School Accounts Office for both Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

One of the Matinees, on Tuesday, is for our current Year 6 students and the students from other schools around Bangkok who will be joining them in Year 7 in August, as part of this year’s Year 6 Transition Day. It is always a pleasure to welcome the next year’s Year 7 to the High School and I am sure that this will be a great day, with a Year 6 Transition Parents' Information Evening taking place in the Jo Adamson Theatre at 3.00 p.m. tomorrow.

I announced the name of the Jo Adamson Theatre, following a vote by students and teachers, at the end of last term’s St Andrews Presents… Showcase and some of you will already have seen, on the Grease poster above or when visiting the High School this week, that we have now also named the Library in memory of Simon Lawrence. This reflects Simon’s love of both literature and students’ independent learning.

This week we also have the MIT STEAM Launch for Years 7 to 10 on Wednesday. Unfortunately I cannot tell you too much about this now, as it will spoil Wednesday’s surprise, but I can tell you that the teachers loved their MIT STEAM Launch a few weeks ago. Please ask your daughter/son all about this on Wednesday evening…

As Mr Paul has written in his Head’s Lines, next week we have a group of visitors from the Education Development Trust, the Thai Ministry of Education ONESQA and Nord Anglia Education who will be inspecting the school for our International School Quality Mark/British Schools Overseas Inspection. We were very pleased to be judged to be Outstanding both overall and for every Standard indivdually when they last visited three years ago, and we are looking forward to showing our visitors that we are an even better school three years later.

The week after this Accreditation Inspection is our annual Week Without, with students, parents and teachers being challenged to give something up for the week to raise both awareness of the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves and funds for Year 12’s Service Week Projects. The Week Without will be launched in Assemblies on Friday morning, giving students just over a week to decide what they are going to give up and collect sponsorship.

Finally, I am very happy to be able to let you know that Air Visual have now confirmed that our High School AirVisual can now report hourly air quality and weather data through both the AirVisual app  - it should appear as your closest station from anywhere between approximately Phrom Phong and Bang Chak BTS Stations - and the website.

As promised, this allows all High School parents to share the same local data that we have, and that we are acting on in accordance with our Air Quality Policy, as published in Newsletters earlier this year and available on the High School Parents’ Handbook on Moodle.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Year 6 Transition Parents' Information Evening and Grease later this week.

Mr Roo
