Both Science and Technology are popular and well-established subjects at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subjects through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subjects and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curricula.
All students study Science throughout Key Stage 3, with schemes of work based on the English National Curriculum but adapted to reflect both the international nature of our students and to better prepare them to study single Sciences at both IGCSE and IB. At Key Stage 4, all students must study at least one Science, with many studying two or more, chosen from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In Key Stage 5, all students must study at least one Science as part of the IB Diploma Programme, with many students studying two chosen from Biology, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Design Technology, Environmental Systems and Societies, and Physics.
This year, for the first time, students in Key Stage 3 are following a new integrated Technology curriculum, with two lessons of Technology each week during which they cover topics and skills from Design Technology, ICT and Computing Science. We would especially welcome applications from candidates with a commitment to, and experience of, more holistic, Project-Based approaches.
At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.
All Science and Technology classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required. As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
