There were 26 Year 10 Businesses in total, with some functional skills students also selling snacks. The products on offer ranged from mystery boxes and posters to kinetic sand.
Students have been preparing for the fair by implementing the various range of entrepreneurial skills taught by the business department to create and run their own business. Some of the skills required include, money management and promotion. The students even had to find their own investments giving us the opportunity to get a brief understanding on how businesses are run, the problems that business have and how to overcome different problematic situations.
Our business was selling customizable posters at the price of 50 Baht, we also had a promotional lucky dip game where customers had the chance of winning many glorious prizes depending on their luck.
What we have most enjoyed about running our businesses is the expression on a customer's face when they are happy with the product they have bought at the fair, we are also enjoyed working together as a team to try and face difficult situations just as a real business firm might do. The skills that we have learned include risk taking and decision making. For example deciding on the right level of stock to purchase so we didn’t sell out too soon but so we weren’t left with lots of spare stock we couldn’t sell.
The main challenge we faced was the fact that we only started production a few days before the sale and we were worried that we wouldn’t make enough products to reach the level of profit that we wanted. We overcame this by producing posters at lunchtime and by having one partner making new posters during the fair whilst the other partner would be managing the stall downstairs.
Our highlight of the Sale day was the fact that our stall was being swarmed by customers all waiting in line to purchase our product. We also really enjoyed the look on each other's face after we counted our profit as we were happy that we made 6500 Baht in profit following our troubles with production.
We would like to thank our Business teachers this year who have supported us in developing our entrepreneurial skills. Collectively we made 28,246 Baht profit from the Summer Sale Day and 22,310 Baht at the Christmas Fair, so 50,556 Baht is being donated to House charities. This is a great achievement by the Year 10 students and we are glad we can help the local communities in need.
