High School Sports Awards
Our Sports Awards are officially sold out for Wednesday 27 June at 6pm and we’ll be very busy over the next two days preparing for our biggest and grandest event ever. With over 300 people in attendance, it’s going to be a special occasion. Please note the dress code is smart and that that boys are expected to wear a tie.
We had our annual House Football & Basketball competitions this morning. It was great to see so many high schoolers get involved, either as participants or as scorers. Those who participated clearly enjoyed themselves - and that is what House sports are all about!
We find that some students still prefer to sit out our House sports. We hope that they may be inspired by some of our non-sports-playing high schoolers who took part today and had fun. As part of developing our culture of healthy, active lifestyles, we encourage all students to get involved, to face the risk of failure that sports always involves - even for the more able athletes - and to show a growth mindset, which is one of our High School goals.
Basketball Summer Camp
We’re offering 4 weeks of camp this summer for anyone in Y3-9. Ballers will be split into ability and age groups and work on their technical skill. There’ll be plenty of scrimmage time each session too! Sign-up is on Moodle as usual. Look in the left-hand column on the homepage for Bball Summer Camp.
You may sign up by the day. Drop-ins and non-STA friends will also be accepted though these are dependent on numbers each day. If you have any queries, please contact Miss Aanchal or Mr. Ollie.
Squad trials for 2018-19
Our trials process will begin in the first week back when students will be asked to register for trials. All students who sign up will be allowed to attend trial starting Wednesday 22 August and continuing through Week 2.
Training will begin from Wednesday 29 August
Please note we run year-round training in most sports and students are expected to attend all year in order to gain maximum benefit from the programme. At any point in the year, students may request a trial. We’re always happy to see how they may have progressed. It’s not possible for students to participate in every sport but we hope that they find plenty to enjoy in the programme. They should be able to do 2-3 different sports.
We’re pleased to add gymnastics next year to the list as follows: football, basketball, rugby, touch rugby, badminton, tennis, volleyball, golf, table tennis.
Flames on Facebook
Just a reminder to join our STA Flames and Marlins Group on Facebook, as we’d like to use this to keep everyone updated on games, training etc. We know that not everyone is a Facebook user, but we would recommend joining the group even if you don’t use Facebook for any other reason.
It’s a very convenient way for us to reach out and share information from wherever we are. We’re also on Instagram and continue to use our St Andrews Facebook page to post photos of our amazing Flames and Marlins in action.
