No 4/January 2019
The PTG extends a warm welcome to any new families who have joined the school at the start of the new year 2019. By now you will hopefully have heard of the warm community feel of which we are very proud here at St Andrews and which the PTG does its best to nurture and support.
Just a reminder that the PTG organizes parent activities ranging from sports – such as tennis, swimming, yoga, pilates – to Thai lessons tailored to various abilities. And in addition to the PTG meetings at which you can raise issues or concerns you may have, we also organize get-togethers at which parents can get to know each other or catch up in an informal setting. This term will see a repeat of our successful drinks evening held at Wishbeer Sukhumvit 67 in December and the coffee morning that took place in the Simon Lawrence Library in the first week back. If you haven’t been able to attend any of these events so far, we invite you to do so in future – come and meet new people, have unexpected conversations. We feel that you won’t be disappointed!
We realise that fewer parents visit the High School campus than the Primary campus just because their children are older and more independent, but if you do come, please keep an eye out for notices that might be of relevance to you on the digital displays. For example, we’d love to have any unused school uniforms you may have at the back of a cupboard at home. What better time to declutter than at the start of the new year? Once we have enough stock, the PTG will sell these second-hand uniforms and all proceeds will be donated to charity. And while you’re here, come for a coffee and a chat with other parents in the café!
Term 2 is already in full swing with the corridors of both campuses abuzz with activity. Young eco-warriors continued their battle against plastic at an Eco-Fair held at Primary School, at which they also showed off their impressive new Eco Garden featuring fresh lettuce, rosemary, mint, and other home-grown, chemical-free offerings at the top of K Building (the building housing the Library). And at High School, students are palpably excited about the upcoming residentials, a time during which new friendships are often forged, while those in Y11 and Y13 sitting mock exams are taking an important step closer towards their future after STA.
We look forward to seeing you at the next PTG meeting on 17 January at 8:30, this time at the High School Theatre in the Blue Building.
Fun Day 2019
Fun Day is just around the corner and will be held on Saturday, 2 February 2019 at the Primary School. Plans are already well under way: rides are booked and food and shopping vendors are booking their places. This is always a great day for parents to relax while their children enjoy a day packed with fun in a safe environment. More details on entry bracelets and raffle tickets and prizes will follow soon. Please remember that this is the only fund-raising event for the PTG in the year. The more money we raise through entry bracelets and the sale of raffle tickets, the more money we have to support our students and community.
The PTG sponsors the cost of the top 5 prizes but we always like to offer as many prizes as possible so if you are in a position to donate a prize (for example a restaurant voucher, yoga sessions, a nice bottle of wine….) please get in touch with us (email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org). All donations of prizes are most gratefully received.
Don’t forget the PTG’s Facebook group where you can find out lots of useful information about school as well as getting used to living in Bangkok if you are new to the city. If you would like to contact us about something specific, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by email on email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org.
