High School Library: One World, One Book

The Simon Lawrence Library at St Andrews International School Bangkok is excited to be a part of the Nord Anglia Global Library as well as celebrating International Women’s Day.  And read on for more information about the new “Book Drop” which makes returning books even quicker.

Nord Anglia’s Global Library: Malala’s Magic Pencil

Nord Anglia’s Global Library has been promoting “One World One Book” since the beginning of this academic year across the Nord Anglia family of schools. The Simon Lawrence Library has enjoyed participating in this event with “The Breadwinner”, this year's featured author Deborah Ellis’ book. We have now started promoting “Malala’s Magic Pencil”. During her summer holidays with her family, Malala Yousafzai watched an Indian children’s TV show about a magic pencil and one day the memory inspired her to write this book, which tells her own story in a simple and graphic style. The beautifully illustrated book is highly recommended not only for younger children but also teens to share their ideas and dreams for the world with families as well as to discuss how to use their own magic pencils in our community. Please watch her book trailer on Youtube. In addition, the theme is connected to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals - Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. If you're not sure what these are all about, please check out more information on Global Library in Nord Anglia Global Campus through Moodle or just by clicking this link.

International Women’s Day (IWD)

The Simon Lawrence Library celebrated International Women's Day on Friday, 8 March 2019. This year’s theme is #BalanceforBetter which translates into “balanced world is a better world” and students are encouraged to spend some time thinking about how they can help forge a more gender-balanced world. We have selected some books reflecting women's achievement, awareness against bias and action for equality from the Library collection and our famous BOOKFLIX is now filled with those books. Please come to take a look at our collection and join celebrating the day with inspiring books.
