Head’s Lines: The future of FOBISIA

Mr Paul attended a meeting of Head Teachers of FOBISIA schools… Primary Book Week is just around the corner and there are so many competitions and activities taking place to celebrate a love of reading… Our community is encouraged to ensure that cars are not left idling in the school car park and please do take the time to fill out our Leavers’ Survey if you haven’t already.

Last weekend I attended the FOBISIA Head Teachers Business Meeting in Manila. Our school, students, teachers and parents really enjoy being involved in all the different activities that FOBISA provides our school community to participate in throughout the year.

There are now over 60 international schools in the Federation of British International Schools in Asia and this meeting is attended by all the Heads to discuss what has been achieved this year and how the Federation can work together to improve all the different areas of sport, music, CPD and many other activities that the Federation provides for its membership. It was a particularly important meeting as, for a long time, the Federation has been growing in numbers and there has been a discussion about the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer who would take on the leadership of the Federation and alleviate the pressure currently on the Head Teachers who are elected to voluntary positions on the Executive Committee of FOBISIA.  After a long period of recruitment activity where many candidates were interviewed, a final candidate was selected at the meeting. This is Mr John Jones, a former Head of a FOBISIA School in Penang who knows the FOBISIA organisation very well and is in a unique position to be the first CEO to lead the FOBISIA Federation through its next period of growth, offering greater support for all the international schools in Asia that it currently has in its membership.

Primary Book  Week

Everyone is really looking forward to our Primary Book Week next week. There is a lot going on all week to celebrate reading and to develop a love for literature in our children. I am especially looking forward to the Book/Film Character Parade on Friday 29 March.

Idling in the Car Park

Please do not allow your cars to be left idling in the car park at school. The issues we have had with air pollution are directly related to car exhaust fumes and it is important that we all follow the school policy to reduce as much of these emissions around our school. There will soon be signs around our school car park giving information about the law as well as about the pollution caused by idling car engines and the sanctions that can be imposed. The District Environmental Officers will review the problem and, working with the school, could fine individuals who leave their cars idling in the school car park or surrounding area.

Leavers’ Survey

Thank you to everyone who has already completed the Leavers Survey that was sent out. Thanks to this information, work is already underway to ensure that classes for next year are balanced so that every student can be afforded the best possible learning experience. However, if you have not yet completed this survey, we would appreciate your response as soon as possible, as it is also very important for our Admissions Team to have an idea of the number of new families we can welcome into our community next academic year.
