Primary School Sport: Our gymnasts and basketballers reach new heights

Our Primary basketballers and gymnasts took part in their final competitions of the year and showed how much progress they have made through hard work and dedication this year.

This weekend we participated in our last Gymnastics competitions of the year. Our Gymnastics programme goes from strength to strength with more and more children becoming part of the team. Please read below to find out how our gymnasts got on.

Also, this weekend we held the first ever Friday Night Basketball Game for our U11 basketballers and then on Saturday St Andrews International School Bangkok hosted the U11 3on3 tournament. This was a great way to end of the year for our players and congratulate them on all their hard work throughout the year.

Last week we had three sports days on Wednesday, Thursday and then finishing off our Sports days with the Year 1 on Friday. It was a great effort from all the children with lots of competitive fun and enjoyment for sport.

With this being the last gymnastics competition of the year it was great to see so many of our Primary gymnasts taking part. All the children performed really well and achieved some personal bests. Our boys’ team goes from strength to strength. In their last competition, they claimed the first ever gymnastics trophy for STA and this time they did even better with a 1st place trophy. This concludes what has been a great year our gymnasts. Miss Bogi is thrilled with all the progress being made and is really looking forward to next year.

What a great way to the end the year with the Friday Night Game and also the 3on3 tournament on Saturday. It was fantastic to see so many of our young basketballers there and showing the brilliant progress they have made over the past year. There was a really great atmosphere and the players put on an entertaining show for all the spectators. Our girls’ team ended Saturday as champions and the boy’s team fought a closely contested game and came away with a second place trophy. Well done also to the boys’ and girls’ dance teams for their contribution during the Friday Night Game helping to make it an action-packed evening of basketball.

Thank you to Mr Ollie and his team for two really positive events for our Primary children.

What an incredible morning of football we had last weekend with 90 of our children competing in the last tournament of the year. We had the most participation by any Bangkok school which reflects the expansion of opportunities available within our STA sports programme. Out of the 90 children involved, 5 were playing in their first ever tournament for STA.

Here are some more great photographs from the tournament.

Last week all our 40-strong FOBISIA team played teeball at Patana in a warm up for the FOBISIA games. It was a really positive experience for our children and should give them a better chance to succeed at the FOBISIA Games in June.

These great shirts are now available at the Uniform Shop at both Primary and High School for the very reasonable price of 250 baht (220 baht for the sleeveless top). Be a part of the team.

Sporting Conferences

We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - TISAC, BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will therefore be useful.

We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:

TISAC: Thailand International Schools Activities Conference

We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.

BISAC: Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference

This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments.

FOBISIA: Federation of British International Schools in Asia

This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other schools across Asia. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.

NAE: Nord Anglia Education

We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.

In addition, we are part of the wider circuit regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.

Currently we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.

If you have any questions about these conferences, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr Damon (
