Primary School Sport: Looking back on a great year

Time to celebrate our brilliant children at the Primary Sports Awards and reflect on this year's sport.

It has been an excellent year in sport with so many opportunities for our STA children to train, enjoy and represent St Andrews International School Bangkok. We have had great success with our sports teams at the FOBISIA Games, NAE Games, BISAC/TISAC tournaments and also added many new events to the calendar such as the Biathlon/triathlons and 3on3 basketball. I hope your children have enjoyed their PE lessons and have joined either a sports ECA or a squad to further develop their skills and understanding of that given sport. On behalf of the PE Department, it has been a pleasure to teach your children and start them on their journey in sport and living a healthy active life.

Primary Sports Awards

On Wednesday, over 300 hundred children and parents attended the Primary Sports Awards. It was a really positive evening and we would like to thank all parents for your support this year. These awards were to celebrate all our children and their contribution to STA Sport, not just the award winners. I hope all the children currently playing STA sports have had a great year and have enjoyed their training.  All the coaches are very proud of all of you.

Looking forward to next year

Each new year is a new challenge and we will look to continue to expand all our sports.  Next year we plan to give as many children as possible the chance to play the sport they want to play. So more chances for sports from tennis to dance to gymnastics to football. If you would like to know more about the STA sports programme please email me (damon.se@standrews.ac.th">damon.se@standrews.ac.th).

Primary FOBISIA Games

Last week Year 5&6 FOBISIA athletes from St Andrews International School Bangkok went to Phuket for their annual Games of swimming, athletics, teeball and football. Our children were excellent as always and not only produced some brilliant displays across the sports, but also showed the teamwork, resilience and determination our STA children are renown for.

The level of performance at these Games was the hardest yet with very strong competition from the other 5 schools.

Three out of our 4 Teeball teams were undefeated in their tournaments, with the A & B teams becoming FOBISIA Champions and the C team coming runners up after a count back on runs scored.

Lots of personal best were achieved in athletics and swimming which shows the individual progress made this year. Unfortunately, we just missed out on third place in the athletics and were 6th in swimming.

The last day of the Games saw the boys’ and girls’ football tournaments. In the morning the boys started slowly but then found their normal high levels, with both our boys’teams finishing runners up to some really strong teams. In the afternoon the girls had a tough competition with both teams finishing 4th Place.

Overall, it was a great trip and the children were brilliant. All the teachers were very proud of the children and it was a joy to be part of such a special team.

Tennis

Our term 3 ECA Tennis program has finished successfully. Well done to all of the children who participated in the program and we look forward to seeing you again next year. Thank you to all coaches and teachers for all of their support.

Swimming

Well done to parents and swimmers who participated in our Y6 Swim Carnival and Y1 Swim With Parents event. Also, a big thank you to all the teachers involved for making the events possible.

A quick reminder that this Monday, 24th June 2019 will be our last session for ECA and Swim Squad.  Please stay tuned for more information regarding ECA and Swim Squad signup as the school reopens in August.

In the meantime, the Swim Team would like to wish all the parents and swimmers a safe and happy summer holiday.

Keep in touch

Please stay up-to-date by joining our STA Flames & Marlins Facebook closed group for parents and students who are part of our Sports Programme. We try to add as many of the events we go to and also keep you updated on fixtures, competitions and tournaments coming up.

As it’s a closed group not open to the general public, please complete the questions so that we know if you’re part of our STA community.

Parents may post to this group and it’s been great to see some of your photos of our children in action!

Sporting Conferences

We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - TISAC, BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will therefore be useful.

We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:

TISAC: Thailand International Schools Activities Conference

We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.

BISAC: Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference

This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments.

FOBISIA: Federation of British International Schools in Asia

This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other schools across Asia. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.

NAE: Nord Anglia Education

We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.

In addition, we are part of the wider circuit regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.

Currently, we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.

If you have any questions about these conferences, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr Damon (damon.se@standrews.ac.th">damon.se@standrews.ac.th).
