The hunt for Captains and Reps

Primary School House: The hunt for Captains and Reps

We begin the search for a new team of House Captains and Reps throughout the Primary School. And don’t miss out on the fun House competitions launching this week.

House Captains and Reps play an important role at St Andrews International School Bangkok. Each House has a team of children from Year 2 to Year 6 who perform a range of helpful jobs. These responsibilities involve supporting their House Leaders to organise House events, helping with the running of Fun Fridays and also to be the voice of their House community within each Year group. It is a great opportunity for children to use and develop their communication and leadership skills, whilst also making a difference in school.

This Friday, during Assembly, the children learnt all about the roles and responsibilities of House Captains and House Reps. Interested students in Years 3 - 6 will need to audition for their House Leader on Wednesday 18th September. They must explain persuasively why they think they would make a good House representative. House Leaders will then select some children to go on to pitch their speech to their House teammates on Friday. Auditions for Year 2 children will be slightly different, as they will pitch their ideas to teachers in Year 2. Finally, after the speeches, children will vote for who they feel will make the best representative for their House.

If your child is interested in auditioning to become a House Rep or Captain, here are some pointers:

  • The speech should be no longer than one minute.

  • The speech must be written by the child (although parents are welcome to give advice).

  • The speech should explain briefly why they believe they would make a good House Rep/Captain. They may want to suggest one or two ideas for what they would contribute if they got the role.

  • Most importantly, the child must be confident to speak loudly and clearly in front of a large audience, so please help them to practise!

Our new House Captains and Reps will be revealed on Friday 27th September. Good luck to all those who enter!

Any questions about auditions and the roles of House Captains and Reps can be directed to the House Leaders via house-leaders-ps@standrews.ac.th

House Competitions

Next week, we also have our first House Competitions of the year. Children in Year 3 and Year 4 can show off their technology skills, as Year 3 hold a Digital Citizenship poster competition and in Year 4 there is a Perspective Photography competition. Please speak to Ms Nat and Mr Jon for more details about the Year 3 competition, and in Year 4, you can contact Mr Pete and Ms Julie.
