Auditions were open for over 20,000 students across 13 countries. The judges then selected up to 3 young musicians from each school to create a truly international collective of 46 instrumentalists and 34 singers.
Claudia Fan and Amy Jiang (currently in Y6 Eagles class) were chosen from BSB Sanlitun and they flew over the ocean at the end of June to meet more than 80 children from around the world in New York, at Juilliard! The girls were filled with trepidation and excitement. It meant very hard work: 6 busy hours rehearsals everyday, lots of workshops with different conductors, musicians and teachers from all around the world.
The time we spent at the Juilliard School of Music was one of the most eye-opening experiences we have ever had. The students were assigned to different groups and sent to different workshops (drama, dance and music). We were all thrilled and incredibly impressed by the standard of performance and passion of each of the Juilliard musicians and artists. We’ve learned that inspiration comes from everywhere. Read on to find out what our students said about the Global Orchestra project, New York and the visit to the Juilliard school.
