Year 3 Macaws continued with their Spring Term topic of Light, focusing on cameras, photographs and composition.

During this lesson, the children firstly worked collaboratively to sort through a range of photographs that were taken using different styles. The children discussed what they liked or disliked about each one, how the photographs made them feel and what the artist of the photographs was trying to get their eyes to focus on.

The children then used their ‘Thinking in Different Ways’ and ‘Risk Taking’ skills to share with their peers their thoughts and opinions on these photographs.

Alice said, ‘I picked the picture of the pyramid because I like how the photographer has made it look small by taking it from the ground, even though in real life it is very big’.

Gaoxing said, ‘I like this picture because it is peaceful, showing the mountains and the river. It makes me feel happy and relaxed, I’d love to go there’.

After discussing their opinions on the pictures, the children then looked at a range of different composition styles and techniques. They will then replicate these over the next few Topic lessons, creating their own photograph masterpieces.
