Henry Charlesworth

Henry Charlesworth

Head of Performing Arts

Having graduated from the University of Bristol with a Masters in Composition, I worked for many years as a peripatetic guitar teacher and musician. I particularly enjoyed my work in schools in which I was teaching one-to-one and group lessons, organising and leading choirs, ensembles and orchestras, guiding children towards performances and exams and assisting in school productions.

After realising my passion for teaching, I decided to further my professional credentials and in 2012, I graduated from the University of Southampton with a Primary PGCE. I came to Beijing in 2014 and I’m hugely enjoying my current role as a music specialist in BSB. To be able to share my love for the subject with children across all year groups is truly rewarding.

I am extremely keen to give every child in school an opportunity to express themselves musically. I believe that skills learned through music are of great importance to a child’s development as a learner and as a human being.

Beijing is such a culturally rich and diverse city with something for everyone. My main hobby is music. I compose and perform whenever I can. I play keyboard in a local band and love the fantastic range of music acts and venues in Beijing. I’m also a big sports fan. I like to play football and try to keep up with all of the results back home, although watching live games can often mean late nights!
