Success at DVAC events

Success at DVAC events

Over the last two weekends, seven teams from BISB have participated in various DVAC (Danube Valley Athletic Conference) tournaments hosted by international schools in Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava. Only three teams represented BISB in DVAC events a few years ago; we now have more than double that number participating in the same league this year. This shows the enormous progress we as a community have made. Our enthusiastic team of coaches have nurtured this gradually growing number of students in our competitive and recreational squads. In addition, the ongoing support coming from the parents and staff have all contributed to these positive changes. Because of the hard work and commitment, five out of seven teams finished on the podium, including one of them bringing home the championship trophy and three winning the first runner-ups awards. The U14 Boys Football team deserve a special mention for their A-team becoming DVAC champions. The B-team scored 51 goals only conceding four in the whole event. After his successful debut in the festival in October, Oriol accompanied the team to help coach the B squad again. He has demonstrated excellent leadership skills, promoted sportsmanlike behaviour and managed his team with integrity, deserving the respect of all officials, team coaches and fellow players.

A huge thanks to all coaches and assistant coaches for giving up their evenings and weekends, planning their teams’ training sessions, working out the best possible tactics and looking after our student athletes.

Our first season has now ended for the majority of our teams. The NAESA U19 Volleyball Tournament in Warsaw next weekend will be the final event, after which a new training season full of basketball will kick off or, using basketball terminology, a jump ball will be tossed.
