Maria Hodges

Maria Hodges

Year 4 Grape Teacher

BA English, Swedish and Literature, Göteborg University, Sweden

BEd, Linné University, Sweden

Maria started her teaching career in Sweden in 1990 after having worked in several other fields. Her first post was in a small rural school, after which she moved to a more challenging environment at a city school. Ever since 2002, Maria has been working at international schools in the UK, Spain, China and, most recently, Turkey. She has taught classes between Year 1 - Year 11, but has most of her experience in KS2 and KS3.

Maria joined NAE in Shanghai, in 2010, where she initially taught Year 3 before moving to being in charge of the Primary EAL programme. She is grateful for the opportunities NAE has given her to develop her teaching methods and to help develop an EAL curriculum.

What Maria especially enjoys about teaching is spending time every day with so many different individuals and seeing the progress they can make academically and as people. She strongly believes that a happy and secure child will learn more and better, and therefore she tries to vary her lessons to the need of every individual child.

When Mrs Hodges is not busy preparing lessons, she likes spending time with family and friends, reading fiction, exercising and baking. She also likes to travel and discover new countries and cultures.
