Before starting her career in teaching, Rachel worked as a Research Executive in brand management and advertising development for both national and global brands including O2, Diageo and Premier Foods. Rachel’s first teaching post was in an outstanding Academy in the UK. Over her four years there, she held a range of different leadership roles including Key Stage 3 English Leader, then later Leader of Key Stage 5 Learning in Literature and Media Studies and Second in Department for English. She then took up her first international teaching post in Shanghai, where she later became the Leader of IB Diploma English.
Rachel joined NAE in Shanghai in 2014 before moving to BISB in 2017. She has taken full advantage of the opportunities offered through Nord Anglia University and completed professional development courses in Teaching ESL Learners, Assessment For Learning, CAS, and Learning Technologies.
Rachel is committed to education that helps students become life-long learners with the knowledge, skills and mind-set to continue learning, developing and being successful long after they leave school. She is motivated by enabling students to achieve highly and engage with real world issues, and is ambitious for the students in her classes. Rachel believes that through their education at BISB, students will be prepared to be socially responsible, motivated leaders, with the ability to make a genuine difference in the world.
Rachel has a particular interest in Gothic Literature, Post-Modern theatre and the place of mythology and legend within Literature, as well as a keen interest in Cinema. She enjoys live music festivals, yoga, and, having once been a competitive figure skater, still skates recreationally whenever she gets the chance.
