Bruce began his teaching career in 2009, having previously worked in magazine marketing. His first teaching post was in a large comprehensive school in Bristol, after which he took up his first international school post in Vietnam.
Bruce joined NAE in Vietnam in 2014 as a Teacher of Business Studies and Geography. Having led the Student Council in his first year at the British Vietnamese International School, Bruce was promoted to the Key Stage 3 Coordinator role, leading a team of 12 tutors and overseeing the academic progress and pastoral wellbeing of over 200 students. Bruce was also instrumental in setting up a popular and increasingly successful volleyball club, coaching boys and girls from 11 to 18 years of age.
As a teacher with commercial experience, Bruce is excited at the role Business Studies and Economics play in preparing students for life beyond formal education. Bruce believes that children learn best when they look forward to going to their lessons and have the right balance of challenge and support. Students' progress has just as much to do with engagement in their whole school environment as it does with the individual subjects they are learning. Bruce believes it is therefore essential to create a classroom where students are respected, listened to and cared for.
Bruce’s spare time is increasingly filled entertaining his young son. He has become an experienced participant at soft play and is now adept at fitting down slides not built for adults.
