This year the topic for the MIT challenges is Navigating Tomorrow. This is a very exciting area of research and the topic encompasses 3 themes:

  1. Street Smarts – looking at the future of self-driving cars, mapping skills, robotics and coding. Other areas we might look into are debates on the ethics of AI decision making.
  2. Greener Skies – The challenge here is to look at ways to design aircraft which can mitigate the dramatic projected increase in demand for air travel whilst reducing the impact on the environment. With a wind tunnel to investigate aerodynamics, our students will explore how shapes travelling through the air are affected by air resistance and try to develop the most efficient forms.
  3. Rethink/Refuel - This will look at the future of fuels, biofuels, land use and the growth of renewable energy.

At BISC-LP we will be making these projects come alive during the course of the year, through our International Primary Curriculum. The collaboration between MIT and Nord Anglia Education seeks to enhance the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM), by connecting MIT innovation and culture to our school.

Navigating Tomorrow is designed to transport a little bit of MIT to our classrooms.
