The Juilliard approach to classroom lessons can be summed up in five key points.
- Success for all regardless of student’s career aspirations in the arts
- Active and hands on approach to learning.
- Igniting creativity by helping students to engage in meaningful artistic experiences.
- Inquiry and reflection fosters curiosity leading to student motivation, an impetus for hard work and achievement.
- Meaningful encounters with high-quality works of music, dance and drama.
The students at Rayyan and Gharrafa Campuses were also treated to assemblies were they got to hear Jessica play her viola and show off her looping machine. Jessica will be back next term when the students at Madinat Khalifa will be able to hear Jessica perform some of her own compositions.
Last Sunday saw the secondary choir perform for the first time this year. Students rehearse during first break on Mondays and Wednesdays singing in three parts. They performed “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons, “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles and “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. Please come and support the choir who will perform at the official launch of the Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme next Wednesday, 9 November at 18:00.
It’s not too late to join the choir. Students are more than welcome to come a try a rehearsal before committing.
Funk Band First performance
Last Sunday's key stage 3 assembly saw the first performance by our new Funk Band. At the moment the band has 14 members who encompass the full range from year 6 to year 13 (plus Mrs Porter and Dr Creissen!). They played "Living for the City" by Stevie Wonder, "Chameleon" by Herbie Hancock" and "The Peter Gun Theme" from the film "The Blues Brothers". The band is open to any brass or wind players who are already having lessons. The band hopes to welcome several new members from the new trumpet/trombone club soon.
Please come and support the new band when they play next Wednesday, 9 November at the launch of our collaboration with The Juilliard School of Performing Arts. The band will also be performing at the schools 10th Anniversary celebration on 19th November.
