It has been said many times, in many ways, but the relationship between parents and school has to be strong and supportive if children are going to find success.
It was great to see so many of our Secondary School parents in school last week to ‘Meet the Tutor’ and get the academic year off to such a great start. I know the tutors appreciated you making that early connection and we hope that relationship continues to grow as the year progresses.
We are always looking for ways to keep our parents informed about the school and especially the curriculum we offer here at Compass International School Doha. To achieve this, we are planning a series of Parent Information Evenings where we break our curriculum down and give useful advice on how you, as parents, can support the great work that happens in school. The first of these events is our Succeeding at IGCSE Evening being held on Wednesday, 11 October from 6.00pm in the Sports Hall. Mr Douch, teachers and students will be offering advice on how you can support your child as they work towards achieving the very best results from this two year course and is targeted at our Year 10 and 11 parents. Following on, we have our Succeeding at IB evening on Wednesday, 18 October and finishing with Succeeding at Year 7, 8 and 9 evening on Wednesday, 22 November. The above events are for you to find information about the curriculum your child is currently studying in but we will provide other events, later in the year, for you to look ahead and find out about your childs next steps into IGCSE, IB and Beyond – dates to follow.
As always, we have our Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) which is your opportunity to speak with your childs teachers and discuss their academic attainment and progress. As our school community is growing and parent attendance is so high, we need to offer two PTC dates. Year 7, 8 and 9 PTC will be held on Monday, 23 October and Year 10 to 13 on Monday, 6 November both from 2.00pm to 6.00pm.
Academic study and success is the core purpose of any good school but there must be a wider range of exciting opportunities that support and encourage learning, if that school is to become great. At CISD, we have many ways in which your child can engage in learning beyond the classroom but we feel, here at our MK campus, we have an area of opportunity that needs to be developed. With this in mind, Mr Frawley and myself would like to invite all MK parents to join us on Tuesday, 17 October at 7.30am for coffee as we look to re-establish our Friends of Compass School (FCS) group. Again, the benefits to any school which fosters purposeful connections with their parents is beyond question. We would like to share some ideas, but more importantly, gather the thoughts of you, our Madinat Khalifa parents, on how the FCS can work together to support our schools continuing journey from good to great.
Please add the above dates to your diary and we look forward to seeing you in school very soon.
