I hope you are all feeling relaxed following the Spring Break.
This term has begun on a positive, industrious note. Teachers met this week to discuss next week’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) Week. The week is an opportunity for all students to be innovative, creative and imaginative. The teachers have planned some inspirational activities which will certainly be discussed at home. We would like to invite our parents into school on Thursday when there will be an opportunity to find out a little more about the week and to participate in some fun, challenging activities. We hope all our parents are able to join us.
This week, our Year 2 children invited their Teddy Bears into school for a special picnic and Teddy Bear hunt as an introduction to their new IPC unit. It was lovely to see our parents and children demonstrating healthy eating to their special fluffy friends. I feel privileged to have met Sharky, Jaffa and Blob (who didn’t have names until I met them today). Also yesterday, Early Years had a visit from QAWs and were taught how to look after their pets. Hopefully, we have now secured another tortoise who will befriend our current onsite pet who resides in the Eco Garden.
The Year 6 graduation preparations are now underway. This year’s event will take place at Sharq Village and Spa on Sunday, 14 May from 5.30 pm - 8.00 pm. The evening should be a prestigious affair and a highly fitting way to say goodbye to our wonderful students.
On Wednesday, 3 May, we are inviting all Compass Families interested in learning more about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Compass. Students and parents of all ages are invited to join us from 6.00 pm - 7.00 pm at Gharaffa Campus to hear from Justin Hughes, IB Coordinator.
In today’s assembly, our children met our Friends of Compass Team. Please remember that the team will be selling Blanket Sale pitch tickets on Sunday and Monday next week. There will be a limited amount of tickets as the Blanket Sale will need to take place inside (due to the increasing heat). The Dutch children will also be holding an additional Blanket Sale tomorrow when our community congregate at the Gharaffa Campus to celebrate King’s Day. This event will be taking place from 8am to 11am. Thank you to Monica Mansveld and the Dutch team for organising this event.
Yesterday, our Student Council were invited to attend a South African inauguration at the Lulu Hypermarket. The children had the opportunity to view the new products which reflect the country’s diverse culinary range and participate in some African drumming.
This week, we are celebrating further sporting success. On Monday and Wednesday, our Year 5 and Year 6 Girls’ Basketball teams competed at Qatar Academy. The Year 5 Team brought home a silver medal with the Year 6 Team coming in fourth place. We are very proud of their success.
Have a relaxing weekend.
Head of Campus, Gharaffa
