Dear Parents,

It gave me great pleasure to honour the new Rayyan Campus post holders at assembly last week. I was extremely impressed by the large number of children in Years 1-6 who presented their manifesto to their class in the hope of being the Student Council or Eco Warrior representative. It shows real ambition and motivation, excellent qualities to have, so congratulations to everyone who tried their best.

The new role of Head Boy and Head Girl was introduced for the first time this year. I am delighted to present Isobel Carter as Head Girl and Ahmad Al Salama as Head Boy. Both are articulate, excellent role models and responsible students. Congratulations to both on their success.

Budding House Captains presented their manifesto to all the children in Years 3-6 and it was a closely fought competition to choose the winner. Representing the houses this year we have:-

Batti Khalifa

Ms Reid

Dariusz Davida

Mr Akhtar

Ahmad Al Salama

Ms Steele

Mohamed Al Hussain

Mrs O’ Neill

Congratulations to our Student Councillors and Eco Warriors for pledging themselves to the school and saying their respective oaths. A very excited and proud group of children took their hats and badges and are eager to get started on school initiatives. Mr Metcalf, Student Council and Mrs Creegan, Eco Warriors, will be supporting the children this year and we look forward to increased student voice across Rayyan Campus.

Last week, we had a special focus on improving handwriting and work presentation in school. The children sharpened their pencils and set about producing their best work. There were excellent examples of joined handwriting and neat print in the earlier year groups. This sets the standard for the rest of the year where we hope to see everyone producing neat, legible writing and from Year 2 (Term 2) and upwards, joined handwriting as per curriculum expectations. Due to photographers being in school, prize winners will be presented with their certificates at assembly on Thursday, 12 October.

The response to our Friends of Compass School (FCS) group meeting was very encouraging with twelve parents coming along to the meeting to introduce themselves and share their ideas. We have some exciting events planned for this term and next, starting with a Movie Night on Thursday, 19 October. Details will follow in a separate letter.

On Wednesday, 4 October, we have Drop in for Coffee. I would like to invite CLASS PARENTS in particular, to come along to share their feedback on the start of the year.

Good news! School uniform has now arrived in Doha. Parents who want to purchase the new uniform can do so at the campus pop us shop or from Uniform Mart. Children are also welcome to wear last year’s uniform during this transition period.

"Who should I talk to?”

In school, we have a leadership structure and team of staff that you can take any concern to or simply ask a question. They are as follows:-

  1. The Class Teacher

Questions about curriculum, class routines, homework, learning or events.

  1. The Milepost Leader

(If you have spoken to the Class Teacher and need more information or want to take a concern further)

Early Years: Mrs Harper

Milepost 1: Ms Steele

Milepost 2: Ms Reid

Milepost 3: Mr Akhtar

  1. The Assistant Head of Campus

(If you have followed steps 1 and 2 above and want further clarification or have a serious concern)

Mrs Harper

  1. Head of Campus

(If you have followed steps 1 to 3 above and need further advice.)

Mrs Djedid

Thank you for helping and supporting us with the morning and afternoon routines. They have improved and the children have settled in and are lining up well.

Please note that Early Years children cannot be taken to class before 7.00 am. If you arrive earlier, please wait in the playground. Parents are expected to encourage independence so should take their children to class, then leave immediately.

Thank you to the group of parents who attended the Arabic Workshop, led by Ms Enaam, our Arabic Coordinator.

This term there will be a series of parent seminars, aimed at involving parents in learning about the curriculum, our teaching and learning approach and how to help your child at home. Please look out for the separate notice and details.

Thank you to those parents who have already returned their Medical and Consent Forms. If you have not, please do so by Tuesday, 3 October so that we can update you records and ensure that we can contact you in case of need.

Have a good week.

Kind regards,

Mrs Ann Djedid
