Madinat Khalifa Secondary Headlines | Monday 19 February

The cycle of school life.

Dear Parents,

I hope you are having a great week and you found time to enjoy the National Sports Day. It has been lovely to hear how many families spent the day using the wonderful facilities we have at Aspire and Oxygen Parks as well as the classic walk along the Corniche.

Our school is a dynamic and very busy place, however, there is calming familiarity from the repeating cycles found in school life. We are now at the time of the year when Year 11 and Year 13 students are full focused upon their external examinations. Despite this exam focus, Year 11 students are also thinking about how they will continue their studies beyond their IGCSE examinations. We hosted a very successful IB Diploma Programme information evening last week where many parents came into school and listen to Mr Hughes share his considerable expertise on the advantages of an IB Diploma when seeking placements in great universities around the world. Year 9 are looking towards selecting their IGCSE subjects for next year with all Year 9 parents and students invited to our IGCSE Options Evening this week on Tuesday, 20 February from 6.00pm in the Gym. At this event, you will find out about all the subject available to study as your child moves towards Year 10. Finally, Year 7 and Year 8 students are continuing to develop their skills and knowledge in all subjects as they head toward the end of year assessment window which opens on Sunday, 13 May and closes on Thursday, 31 May. Each subject will set their individual assessments and all will be conducted within normal class time.

The other annual cycle that has already begun, is the Primary School Transition Programme which ensures our Year 6 students are fully prepared to begin their Secondary School journey come September. Members of the Secondary Leadership Team have already visited our three campuses and introduced ourselves to the Year 6 students and parents. To continue this transition programme, we look forward to seeing you all again at our Madinat Khalifa Campus on Wednesday, 14 March as we provide a detailed overview of life in the Secondary School.

This is such an exciting time as we help many students prepare for their next big life steps; moving from primary to secondary, begin studying for IGCSE examinations, investigating the IB Diploma programme or securing that university placement of choice. The reassuring factor for our students and parents is that they are surrounded by highly experienced individuals who have guided students through these key steps over many years. It is always an exciting time, but please remember that you are always welcomed to come to school and share any questions you may have regarding the next steps in your child's education.

Enjoy the rest of your week and we look forward to seeing many of you at the Arabian Night event, held at our Gharrafa Campus, on Wednesday, 28 February.
