Gharaffa Buzz | Monday, 19 August 2019

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very warm welcome to the start of our new year of learning at Compass International School Doha, Gharaffa.

Once again, we plan to stagger the start times slightly. Please see below the times of arrival for the relevant Year Groups.  These start times are for the first day only.

07:00 New Family Welcome Coffee and Introductions (Morgan Hall)

07:45 Early Years to Year 6 (existing students)

From Monday, 26 August, the gates will open at 06.45 with the school day starting at 07.15.  All children from Year 1 to Year 6 are expected to line up on the school playground when the whistle is blown at 07.15.  Early Years children are expected to be accompanied by parents to the classroom at 07.15.  Please be aware that any students arriving late must register at the school office.

Children must remember to bring a healthy, packed lunch with them. Please see the School Guide here for further information about school arrangements. All children are expected to be wearing full school uniform which includes black shoes (not trainers).

School ends at 13:20 for Early Years and 13:30 for the rest of the school. Year 1 to Year 6 classes will be taken to the playground where they must be collected by an adult. Early Years children must be collected before older siblings from the classroom. Further information about Early Years can be found in our Handbook here .

In order to strengthen our partnership between home and school, each team has prepared a presentation for parents.  This will also give parents the opportunity to meet the team.  These will be held as follows:

Year 3/4, Monday, 26 August, 7.30am to 8.00am, Morgan Hall

Year 1/2, Monday, 26 August, 12.45pm to 1.15pm, Morgan Hall

Year 5/6, Tuesday, 27 August, 7.30am to 8.00am, Morgan Hall

EY1/EY2, Thursday, 5 September, 7.30am to 8.00am, Morgan Hall

The following week, all parents are invited to our first coffee morning of the academy year.  The coffee morning is an opportunity to meet our FCS (Friends of Compass) group, other parents and the School Leadership Team.  The coffee morning will take place on Tuesday, 3 September at 7.30am.

Parents who have children in Year 1 to Year 6 are welcome to join us for this term’s School in Action morning when you will have the opportunity to visit your child’s class and immerse yourself in an educational activity with your child.  This will take place on Monday, 16 September from 7.45am to 9.00am.

This term, we will also be hosting our usual phonics, English, mathematics, EAL, STEAM, Internet Safety and Arabic workshops for parents.  We will be in touch in the next few weeks with more information.

We are really looking forward to welcoming you and your family to our Gharaffa Campus and hope that you enjoy being part of our learning community.  Please do contact your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns at any point during the school year.

Yours sincerely,

Ms. Karen Wilson
