On November 1 the Visual Arts department enjoyed a terrific collaborative Dia de los Muertos celebration with the WPS Spanish department. For the past several years the Spanish teachers have provided opportunities in their own classrooms for students to create "ofrendas" or offerings to honor famed Mexicans who have passed away. This year, the Visual Arts teachers asked to join the fun and created "calacas," usually humorous skeletons, as well as other traditional decorations dating from the Aztec Empire of a thousand years ago to the present. Flik, our amazing food service team, made refreshments including delicious skeleton cookies and Mexican spiced hot chocolate. We had such a great experience that plans are underway for an even bigger celebration next year!
