We strive to make new families feel welcome at our school! Getting involved is an excellent way to make you feel like you’re "in the know" and is a great way to create new and lasting relationships!
VSPA's New Parent and Volunteer Coordinator coordinates parent volunteers that fulfill recurring opportunities, like PALS representatives, morning greeters and library helpers. To find out more about these opportunities, contact our New Parent and Volunteer Coordinator at email@example.com.
In addition, VSPA Vice Presidents (VPs) for Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle and High Schools coordinate parent volunteers in their respective school division on an as needed basis.
PALS Program - Parents As Links to the School
PALS pairs new families with parent volunteers in the grade(s) their child(ren) will enter. This is a wonderful opportunity for new parents learn from experienced, empathetic parents, and to start building a social network. Upon enrollment, new parents will be contacted by a PALS volunteer. Returning parents are invited to sign up as a PALS volunteer at any time.
Returning parents who want to assist, please email VSPA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Homeroom Parent (HRP) or Grade Parent (GP)
All Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle School classes have Homeroom Parents and the High School classes have Grade Parents. Homeroom Parents (HRP) fill a crucial role in the classroom. They are the liaison between the teacher and VSPA for the other parents. First, as the teacher’s liaison, the HRP will assist the teacher in disseminating important class information to all parents, coordinate classroom parties and events, such as scheduling mystery readers and fieldtrip chaperones, plus keeping a photo/video diary of classroom activities. Secondly, as a VSPA liaison, the HRP will assist the VSPA VP in disseminating information about upcoming VSPA events. It is vital that each classroom has a parent (or two parents) to fill this role.
Being a HRP is a rewarding position and one that gives you the opportunity to get to know the families in your children's home room. To be a HRP, register your interest at the Sneak-a-Peek session the day before school starts at the beginning of the year or email email@example.com to contact your VSPA Vice President.
Volunteering is a great way to get involved! Ask your Home Room Parent or check your class Shutterfly site for classroom volunteer opportunities, like helping with class parties, being a “mystery reader” or acting as a chaperone for field trips.
Home Room Parents (HRPs) and Grade Parents (GPs) coordinate parent volunteers for the class and grade on an as needed basis.
Each year the Elementary school library needs volunteers and assistants at carpool times. There is an annual Book Fair that also uses parent volunteers.
To find out about opportunities to get involved in your child's class, grade or division, please contact your HRP, GP or division VSPA Vice President at firstname.lastname@example.org.
