Secondary School Update 16.03.20

Dear Parents,

Following Mrs Brock’s last email, I am writing with key Secondary School updates:

Years 11-13 Parent Teacher Consultation Day - Wednesday 18th March 2020

To reduce the risks associated with adult traffic through the campus and encourage social distancing, we will be holding our PTC appointments via online video conferencing. This will allow you to speak with all your child’s teachers, online, from home.

Instructions:

  1. Subject teachers will issue a google hangout invitation directly to the student. It would be helpful if you are sitting close with your child, with their laptop, ready to receive calls from teachers.

  2. At the appointed time, students just need to make sure they are logged into their email on their school laptop then click on and accept the google hangout video call.

Please don’t be too concerned about the technical aspects - our students are experts on this. You will appreciate that this is a challenging period for everyone, and we are learning and responding to rapid changes. Therefore, we ask for patience and support if there are delays and hiccups. Should you miss your appointment for any reason, please email the teacher and we can reschedule.

Appointment sheet can be found here.

Collapsed Day Years 7-10 - Wednesday 18th March 2020

To allow staff to video conference with Yrs 11-13 parents, we have a collapsed day on Wednesday for Yrs 7-10. Currently, this is scheduled to go ahead as planned. Students need to come to school in their PE or house kits. Please note that this will be an active day, focusing on sports and house events. As previously mentioned, we will respect your decision if you wish to keep your child at home on this day, and avoid group games and sports.

Secondary School Online Learning Policy (during School closure)

We have been planning extensively for as many eventualities as we possibly can.  This has included detailed plans for the possibility of medium and long term school closure. We are confident that we can continue with meaningful and productive online learning should we face this situation. Examination year groups will remain a priority.

Please find our online learning procedures for medium and long term school closure here

Students will receive instructions and guidance on this policy tomorrow, Tuesday 17th March, from their form teachers. We will share this presentation with you.

These procedures will only come into place if the school is closed for a medium or long term. I will notify parents directly if we need to adopt these procedures.

Secondary School Online Learning (when School is open)

Students who have opted to remain at home or are in self-quarantine should continue to use google classroom to access their lessons.

Canteen Provision - Secondary Campus:

We have decided to suspend all self-serving options in the canteen. Soup, salad and fruit will continue to be offered but served by a member of the catering team. Clearly, this will delay queues and we ask for students’ patience and understanding.

We are constantly reviewing our procedures and responding to an evolving situation; we therefore appreciate your patience and ongoing support.

Best wishes

Mrs Zora
Head of Secondary
