At ISM, we strive to create a learning experience for all pupils that is enriched with exciting activities both inside and outside of the classroom. This was a great opportunity for the children to enhance their poetry writing skills.

On Monday the 4th of February, ISM MAT students were selected to participate in a poetry workshop at Rosinka.

The three best poems were entered into the worldwide COBIS poetry competition.

This year's theme was ‘The Last Page’. Every child wrote a poem in class based on this theme.

Each COBIS school could submit up to three entries in each age of the categories below:

  • Category A: 10 years and under
  • Category B: 11 to 14 years
  • Category C: 15 to 19 years

We started the day off by introducing the theme, discussing images, words, different types of poetry and ideas which come to mind when thinking about ‘The Last Page’. The children were very excited. Then we investigated the theme by looking at different images. Finally, the children came up with a draft, followed by their best poem.

The pupils read their poems to the rest of the class and brainstormed ways of making it even better, by looking at poetic devices such as repetition, rhyme and alliteration.

The children celebrated their hard work before leaving Rosinka. They are now patiently awaiting the results of the competition which will be announced on the 22nd of March.
