In an effort to bring the music classroom to our DCIS parents, we will be posting weekly updates of our Juilliard-driven lessons.
This week we have Year 7 and their exposure to folk music and Year 9/10 I tapping into their rhythmic creativity in the Juilliard Suite.
Year 7 explored their own examples of folk music from different times and different places, and compared the use of musical elements using a comparison method of their own design. This 'Tick Tack Toe' task is intended to develop students’ curiosity, perception and cultural awareness as part of the Juilliard-NAE ‘Learner Ambitions’.
This week in the Juilliard room, Year 9/10 had a lesson on Garage Band, a popular editing software used to create, record and compose music on a computer. This particular lesson was about creating a drum track, recording an audio track and learning basic editing tools such as copying and pasting. The students ended the day with some very amazing rhythyms and beats.
