Year 3 were in the STEAM spirit this week as they took over the Design and Technology makerspace at the Secondary Campus to design and create chocolate moulds. They were learning new skills such as using saws and files, seeing the laser cutter in action and using a vacuum former.
We were really pleased to see the children focusing and showing perseverance whilst using the saws and adjusting the vices. They loved choosing images for the laser cutter, which they linked with their own chocolate bar design. “It made the pictures really smoothly,” reported Daniel from 3S. They also used the vacuum former equipment to make the moulds that they will pour chocolate into. So many fantastic skills!
Year 3 completed evaluations and reflected on what they had enjoyed; “Watching the laser cutter”, and what they found challenging; “Trying to cut the wood sideways”. They observed that, “It was really hard work but so fun”.
A huge thank you to Mr Chandler for hosting the Year 3 primary children and we can't wait to see their finished products!
