Year 6 IPC Topic - Fairgrounds In Year 6 we have started our new IPC topic – ‘Fairgrounds’. This involves investigating how a fairground ride works and making our own rides using different mechanisms.

In Year 6 we have started our new International Primary Curriculum topic – ‘Fairgrounds’. This involves investigating how a fairground ride works and making our own rides using different mechanisms, utilising our STEAM skills.

During our entry point, all classes visited Dam Sen Amusement Park in Ho Chi Minh City. Here the children observed and experienced different rides – a fun, hands on start to the topic. They also had the opportunity to participate in a wood workshop organised by ‘PoKids’. They learnt about hydraulics and created a hydraulic lift or crane in small groups. They were also taught how to use different tools safely.

Back in class, we have reviewed forces in Science to support our design process. The children have begun to design their own rides using a variety of different mechanical devices, such as; gears, pulleys, hydraulics and motors with propellers. With support from Mr Chandler from the Secondary campus, we have refined our designs and we are in the process of building our creations. We are planning a year group amusement park, each class has a different zone, which will then be available for parents and other year groups to visit. Watch this space for further updates.
